Theatrical Productions
Exploring sound and lighting for local, small-scale performances
Past Project: Live Events & Production
Setting the Stage
TeamTBM's early days involved providing sound and lighting for small-scale theatrical shows and local concerts. Rather than a large team of industry experts, it was really just the two of us as students having a bit of fun, playing around with technical setups and figuring out how to run live events.
Learning Sound Design
On the audio side, we experimented with selecting music, sound cues, and effects that matched the mood of each performance. Using the equipment we had available, we gradually learned how to balance audio live, making sure the performers could be heard clearly over the music and that the sound naturally added to the atmosphere of the show.
Playing with Lighting
We also really enjoyed playing around with lighting design. It was a very hands-on learning experience where we tried out different colours, angles, and basic effects to see how they changed the look of the stage. We quickly figured out how even simple lighting choices could completely shift the energy of a theatrical scene or a musical set.
Live Execution
Running these small-scale shows gave us highly practical experience in managing live events. We learned how to coordinate sound and lighting cues on the fly and, crucially, how to adapt quickly when things didn't go exactly to plan.
Looking back, it was a great, low-pressure way to learn the technical side of production while simply enjoying the process of putting on a good show with our peers.
